Wild Things Never Feel Sorry For Themselves! No Self-Pity!

Self-Pity

"I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself."  D. H. Lawrence

Self-pity comes in spurts..with media..with projections..with speculations..funny thing..if only we did more..if only we made things happen...take the high road rather than cry that pity party or play the blame game.  Hasn't 2008 been rough enough?  And to think we could not wait for 2007 to end! :)

Enough with the blame...its time to move on..and truly get to work..the elections are over..the bail out..inevitable...ladies and gentlemen it is what it is...so what are you going to do about it to change it? Probably not much but what are you going to do to make it bearable for you to live with?

Here are a few suggestions..

Why not really educate yourself?  With training..about short sales and short mortgages and loan modifications..if we really cared about the people we service in our profession we would really take this time to educate ourselves after all we do talk about giving the best possible customer service in town, right?

Why not TRY to be 2009's media coverage for your area in real estate?  Places to go, things to do, successful sales that you have..maybe educating buyers and sellers..or even those wonderful market reports.

Why not TRY mix old school thoughts with modern day methods? With farming, with on line marketing and a great follow up plan..mixed with a with some self promotion and good old fashioned networking..don't forget those updated business cards and name tags too!

Why not get in front of more people?  Using a variety of methods... maybe methods you might find outdated by attending functions at your local boards, community events, local businesses and just chatting it up with your neighbors.  Pick up the phone, heck connect with classmates..get in front of more people..they can only spread your good name around!

Why not talk about the benefits about buying real estate today?  tax benefits, a place to call home, a stake in some land, the American Dream.  People dream about this all their lives..remind them it can be a reality..be proud of what you do..and why you do it every day.

I don't know about you but I love my profession..and just like a marriage..I am committed...there is no way..I'm going to let media or government or my peers affect 2009 for me....because if I have to do different things to get different results.  Guess what I will!

If you are in then jump in..."Hello 2009..whatever you have planned??????"...Be Forewarned...I'm a wild thing and a wild thing never feels sorry for themselves!  We just find new ways!"

Can You Honestly Tell Me You Stay Away From Negativity?

"Negativity"

Definition from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary

"adverse , unfavorable <the reviews were mostly negative>2 a: lacking positive qualities ; especially : disagreeable b: marked by features of hostility, withdrawal, or pessimism that hinder or oppose constructive treatment or development <a negative outlook> <negative criticism> c: promoting a person or cause by criticizing or attacking the competition <ran a negative campaign> <negative advertising>"

I was thinking about the term negativity..a strange thought, sure but as I was listening to a friend talk..I was waiting to hear some good news..I slowly began to slump into my chair...I thought this is their reality...this isn't negativity...it's life and that's how they view it sitting in their chair.

I couldn't imagine how they are feeling..I'm not in the same boat..as I viewed some of their complaints petty..they had some pretty big ones.  Large enough for those negative unfavorable, adverse thoughts to affect the way they react to the petty ones.

The term negativity means different things to different people, myself included.

To me..when people say things or react to things...I consider the fact..they may be dealing with something bigger..bigger than bad mls pictures or how the seller didn't clean up their house before a showing...sometimes its the pettiness that gets us through the really big things...sometimes its the negativity that helps people to keep on going.

For others facing it head on..can be negativity adverse, unfavorable and possibly disagreeable....knowing the outcome is one of these choices..doesn't make it easy for humans to deal with these matters for themselves..let alone deal with someone Else's in the process.

 Negativity is Someone Else's Reality!

As a real estate industry professional we sometimes have to be negative and deal with negativity on a regular basis..whether it's someone losing their escrow deposit, to someone losing a bid.  All of these outcomes are adverse, unfavorable..and disagreeable for someone..

Its the manners many lack that turns it into something ugly

Uglier that what most would call NEGATIVITY!

What is your definition of a negative person?  And can you honestly tell me you stay away from negativity?  In truth, maybe some would view me negative right now but hey that's my reality from where I am sitting.

Get On Your Feet-Its Time To Make Things Happen!

Being in the true holiday spirit already...yes I saw artificial Christmas trees at one of our drug stores...as I drove by and saw tree lights and for some reason my reaction... created such a strong sense of urgency....

It's holiday time....when life seems to have a mind of its own.. it's time now..to make adjustments...changes and enhancements in our businesses...to help ensure success.

Now is the time to:

1.Start your holiday cards-on a budget crunch-spread it from now until the holidays end..including a message  Happy Holidays..there are many holidays coming for the next few months.

2.  Know your stat's they will be very important next year...stat's and the facts!  In marketing, Internet usage, number sold etc. etc.

3.  Learn everything you can about mortgages..to be able to hold your own in front of a customer..know FHA and understand the bailout, people will be asking you questions and truly want more information.

4.  Go back to the makeover2takeover contest and do the challenges on your own.  This will help you to revamp or create new tools for your business.

5.  Set goals, create a business plan, and determine your budget next year.

6.  Start gathering and organizing your information for your taxes..it will be here before we know it..it might help to prevent the last minute filings.

IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE MARKET TAKES YOU OUT!

How many times have you heard an agent rudely say?...I've been in this business for xx amount of years...or Why isn't your short sale pending or attempt to correct you and end up making a fool of themselves because they do not know what they are talking about?...imagine that..and there is that slim...slim...chance you might become the co-operating broker..oh did I say that?  Cooperating Broker.. I doubt it..because I believe..cooperating was never the true intent.

Often times agents behave in the same way they see their markets..often times..some get so frustrated..they are rude..not focused...and extremely obnoxious and we question why the public sees us the way they do.

CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE OR GET OUT OF THE MARKET!

IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE MARKET TAKES YOU OUT!

Relieve some of that tension...Don't you get it, I'm in the same market as you....I think cooperation vs. competition might work a bit better especially if we are doing a transaction together..maybe you the experienced agent..should place your focus on other things..

 A few suggestions:

Know your contracts and stay up to date-I know you think because you've been in this business a long time..you are entitled to those outdated forms but really truly are you doing what is best for your customer...for the transaction and for yourself?

Take some training-obviously you must have missed that session..yes there have been some law changes....I forgot..you are so experienced....why on earth would you keep yourself current after all you have been in the business...much longer than many.

Read your MLS rules-that's right the rules have changed.. That means don't call and dictate..mls rules to me instead..read the updates...and the changes in our area..they are posted on the BOARD OF REALTORS site. I've read them, have you?

Actively participate in the Board of REALTORS-In all the years you've been in the business..and you are so shocked as to how things have turned out..It seems you have so much to say.....but don't believe you have to participate..with all those years behind you..

Realize that years in the business does not always equal experience!

For those that really need this advice will probably not read this..instead they will continue to do the same thing that they have been doing for many years..the same way...with the same results causing lots of stress and frustration not only for themselves but for buyers and sellers and fellow REALTORS.

Instead of spending hours on end making other working agents miserable..pick up the phone and call a prospect, show some properties..take some training..and keep yourself updated and current...do something that will grow your business because I am telling you... if you do not change your work habits and your attitude it's only a matter of time before the market takes you out!
