Do You Know The Importance of The First Five Sentences of A Blog Post?

Do you know the importance of the first five sentences of a blog post?  If not, I'll share it..in most instances whether it be the ActiveRain real estate network or Word press...the first five sentences are the description of the blog post or some would call an excerpt..

Take ActiveRain for instance..the first five sentences are displayed on the dashboard..if these first 5 sentences are interesting and appealing there is a good chance someone will click through and actually read your post compared to the thousands that appear on the dashboard everyday.

Just like widget box..creating a widget of your blog..you have the option of the way you want each post to be displayed..if its interesting enough..people from around the globe may very well read and sometimes for the very first time...a great way to gain subscribers.

Let's talk about feedburner...add the code to your website..you have options...20 words...50 words or the whole post.  I try to make my post interesting within the first 20 words...I like a wide variety of post displayed on my website.

If you automatically post your links to Facebook...same thing..its a little intro and an opportunity for more click thrus...more readers and hopefully more sales!

So if you are not happy with the number of readers..subscribers...and sales that you should be generating from your blogs..consider the first five sentences...make them exciting...interesting and compelling but most of all make the worthy of reading!  If you found this useful please subscribe! :)

How Do You Use Your Blog Posts?

Recently I did a presentation at our Technology Fair...last year I opted for a PowerPoint..last year I must have emailed that power point over and over again and in some cases to the same person!

Well, this year I decided one thing...no PowerPoint...period...why?  Because I have blogs loaded with training.  No emailing...its there for your use at any time...and I truly believe in blogging for business..so what happened?

  • More visits on my blogs
  • A few new subscribers
  • and some traffic on a my new blog that I am building
  • Great conversation and questions

I have used blog posts for presentations many times...I sometimes print them...mail them...or email them to those that I think will find it useful.

Posts can become great newsletters...marketing pieces offline as well...do you take full advantage of blogging and use your posts in methods other than posting them on line?  I do!  Sure makes training a lot easier!

Want To Be A Better Blogger? Maybe Problogger Can Help!

Let's go back..back a time....remember the Laurie Manny Challenge? She challenged us to go out of the rain and read other blogs and bring back some of our favorites.   It seems one of the common bloggers on our lists was Problogger -Darren Rowse!

While she didn't introduce me to him..his name was mentioned over and over again in the challenge..and since that day...

I've been reading him regularly and have become a huge fan!

Fast forward a year later, I had the pleasure of interviewing the man himself via a blog post.

I admitted at the time I had a talent crush, funny thing..the man just continues to reinvent himself and I admit that talent crush still exists today!   Over 48,000 subscribers.... now that is amazing..and I imagine his readership has grown even more since the interview!

Hmmm...I think we need an update and another interview!

Next his book came out..I was so excited...I couldn't wait to own a copy of his book and then I did a book review...its a book I keep next to my computer..I'm kinda star struck..so I read it often.

OK..its loaded with valuable easy to understand information.  Dorky me, I asked him for an autograph

But it got better

Mike Mueller and John Novak pulled a few strings and the Problogger was kind enough to send Activerain a hello and sorry guys I have to rub it in...he said especially "Midori"....but better yet it was on video!

I felt like a school girl and I did the Happy Dance, yes I admit I have one!

Through out all this I still subscribe to his blog...I read him on facebook..and follow him on twitter..

I've learned a great deal from him and his community members.

2 days ago I was reading one of his posts in my email I was so intrigued and excited and I decided to join his 31 days to build a better blog challenge....it starts April 1st and I look forward to participating.

Care to join me? Visit Problogger.net.

The  best part it's FREE!

This is not a paid endorsement but one rightfully earned!  Thanks Problogger and one day..I hope you will sign my book! :)
