Do People Get Lost In Your Words?

Are you a Google analytics user?  If not you should be.  How can you gage the success of your website and blogs if you do not understand their effectiveness or better yet what is your intent and what do you want as your end result?  Readers...subscribers...$$$$$....Do people get lost in your words?

Midori Miller-Daytona Beach, FL

What I mean by this is the time spent on your site and where the heck are they going after they are filled with your words...do people take action?  Meaning...maybe view MLS listings | request a cma or contact you via email or phone? Do they buy a house or request additional services?  What is the final outcome, did you achieve your goal?  If not...

Add interesting and relevant content!  Make a few changes!

I am amazed at how long people will sit on a site especially if it is packed with useful information...and updated frequently..

I've been experimenting..and its interesting in what I have found.

The time people spend on my ActiveRain blog is much higher than any of my other sites.  It's my oldest, most active blog and the numbers recently went down..people have spent as long as 12 minutes on my blog and now average 7 minutes....here is what I found.

  • I do not post as frequently and am not consistent keeping my content fresh and up to date.
  • Posting members only can reduce the time spent by readers especially if you have more consumer readers than active rain readers.
  • Getting lazy and not adding a call to action or at least a post signature can affect your bottom line.
  • Not adding links to past posts can really get them off your site.
  • Less interaction equals less opportunity...it's almost as if I shut the door!
  • The length of your post matters...shorter is not always best..if you can't make your point in just a few words.
  • My Google page rank dropped by 1 :( now it is a page rank 3
  • Fewer contacts = less opportunity =lost income

There is always a duel between my Active rain blog and my real estate website...and when it comes to search engines...my site usually wins at the end...because of Google analytics...I know..that often times...the traffic to my website is directly from ActiveRain.  Not a bad lead in....

There are those that will aways criticize this site...there will be those that never will understand the true value of the network...and there are those well who are gutless and never tried it because of personal feelings or what they have heard...if only they knew....

I wonder should we tell them?

Survey Says: Real Estate Is A People To People Business

Have you ever taken a look at your most popular posts?  How would you gage them..comments?  Featured?  Business gained?  Your phone ringing...Some would say its all the above.  I agree sorta..but I think its more.

While the Activerain Real Estate Network is about real estate...people enjoy reading a wide variety of things...and maybe not necessarily....topics of real estate.  For those that swear only real estate should be written here...readers feel differently and you may want to think again.

It really surprised me...and it may surprise you.

Recently I learned that less than one percent of people on the net..will leave a comment ...many are reading..

BUT may not respond to you right then and there..

Example:  If you look at my map...on my side bar...I have had 13,000+ visits since April 2008.  I did not start tracking things a little closer until this year. When I look at the comments received....total comments on the rain by others...8535.

Example:  I went into statistics on my blog...I found that my profile was viewed.... 31814 times. My most popular posts will definitely surprise you!  Out of the 3 only the second was featured on the main dashboard but I have posted the link of the first one...over and over again....

When I am looking for an agent...I read what they write...do I connect with them?  Will they be a good fit for the customer?  I base demeanor...on what they write..the tone they take..not only in their blog posts but also in their comment thread....and I can tell you..its not always about real estate and sometimes not very pretty...but its important..especially if I am going to refer them business.

Really simply...truly...blogging is about people...building relationships...and writing very interesting content..relevant content that is important to your readers.

Not the network...not what your peers may think..really..its about your readers and growing your readership.

When I read some of my favorites..they have a sense of humor...

They are real people...and are not a walking billboard. I form an opinion by what they write....and I can tell you most readers will do the same thing.

As I reviewed all of my stats I found that most of my most popular posts were not featured...had fewer comments..and most of them...NOT Real Estate related.  What about you?  Have you checked out your most popular posts..and were they real estate related?

Real estate is a people to people business..
